Danny Lyon

Last Tuesday I had the unique pleasure of hearing Danny Lyon give a talk at my University. I had previously purchased one of his books, Knave of Hearts, which he signed for me. While the talk was less academic than I thought it would be, he had a sense of humor and wit that kept things interesting. The image above is currently being displayed in our art museum's photo exhibition. It is an image that tells of freedom, rebellion, and youth.

If you're interested, check out his blog: Bleak Beauty

Kevin Van Aelst

Kevin Van Aelst is a photographer whose work has been commissioned by the likes of New York Times Magazine, Wired Magazine, and the Boston Globe. The images are colorful, creative, and fun. Many of them feature underlying critiques on society. I especially enjoyed the series of images featuring the fingerprints. It's something I've never seen done before!

REED + RADER

As I was looking through some older posts on Ilovefake Magazine's blog, I came across this photographer duo and was caught, not by all of their images, but by the last two that they posted. My favorite two favorites from this particular series are shown above.

Check out their official website.

The Benevolent Postcard Society

I am part of the Benevolent Postcard Society, an artistic project designed by Lori, author of the blog Automatism. Basically, what happens is that once a month you send a postcard to someone and another individual will send one to you. This project brings strangers from all over the globe together through an exchange of positive and beautiful postcards. Thank you, Lori, for giving all of us this opportunity. I received my first postcard today from Canada! :D Above is the picture of the beautiful hand-made postcard I received in the mail. And yes, I am eating twizzlers this afternoon lol.

Sarah Blasko- No Turning Back

Dan Eldon

http://www.daneldon.org

I remember this past year in photography class, Mr. Knight pulled out a book. It was titled THE JOURNEY IS THE DESTINATION: THE JOURNALS OF DAN ELDON. This one book changed the way I see art. I have always been someone who has tried to find my own creative outlet in a family of "art un-appreciator's" as I call them. His style led me to find my very own art. While his art is not completely in unison with my own, it is what shaped the beginning of my artistic experience. As I develop slowly in my own way, I never forget the Dan was my inspiration. An amazing young man who had a strong message in his heart. Thanks, Dan.
