Spontaneous Poetry

ephemeral escape

So I've been having to write quite a few poems recently and am now in the mood for it so I asked my friend to send me an image. Any image at all. I wanted to just kind of let my emotions out in a simple way. I've found that I love writing poetry that connects to an image. So here's the first attempt. Remember, they're not designed to be "good." They're just for fun and I try to do them quickly in free verse so that my emotions are more prevalent in the poetry itself.

Untitled 1

The light mixes
Orange and blue
Black with shadows
And the vibrance
Resonates with the sound
Of a glittering wind
Blowing across the glass-strewn desert
Picking up the shards as it moves rapidly
Through the valleys of slick stone
And finally reaching into the forests
Coating the trees with the colors of the world
Landscapes long forgotten by our people
Only the spirits of the ancients can recall
The days of glory
When all was bright
And generously colored with hope
Of a new beginning.

A Very Noble Steed and Saving The Universe

So every once in a while I get in this mood so to speak. It's a "paper cutting" mood. Weird, I know. Well, yesterday I had the sudden urge to cut some paper. Of course, this was probably brought on by my avid reading of Color Me Katie's blog (which is amazing by the way). Anyway, I decided I would take some construction paper to school and sit there after classes were over and make something. Well, my friends and I ended up making a story. Here's how it goes:
It all started with a king and a noble steed.

Then we decided that the king needed a knight. The king gifted the knight with his noble steed (such a great act of kindness).

However, the brave knight could not save the Universe all by himself. He's only a small paper man, after all. So he decided to call in some reinforcements...

Grass Stories

Will Hybrid photostream.

So this morning I was walking around on campus and walked over the grass and through the concrete basin up the stairs of doom all the way to the SUB. Doesn't that sound like an epic journey? Well, maybe not. ;) Anyway, this morning I was especially struck by the beauty of the sunlight reflected on the grass. And that's the story. Sorry if it seems a little abrupt, but I really don't know what else to write about grass.

At my home, we no longer have any grass. This is somewhat of a tragedy because I like grass...usually. Not when there are creepy-crawlies, of course. I remember playing soccer with my friends and running through the sprinklers in my bathing suit when I was small. Just enjoying the feel of grass beneath my bare feet. Which brings me to another somewhat off-topic point. I love going around in bare feet. It doesn't matter where I am. If I'm comfortable enough, the shoes will come off. Back in high school they came off every class period. I would sit cross-legged at my desk with my shoes tucked neatly underneath...peaceful. I suppose I like to feel connected to something. Does anyone else have weird quirks like this?
